- Over 50% think Mae Muller will end up in a top 3 position
- Survey suggests record viewing numbers from British households
- The most popular UK finalist from each decade revealed
The UK has been part of the official Big Five in Eurovision since 2011 (Big Four from 2004) due to economic contributions and dubbed one of the heavyweight contenders, also referred to as one of the original Big Five (countries that have won the contest five times or more). However, the facts do not diminish that the UK audience is thirsty for a victorious night on the 13th of May 2023 in Liverpool.
With the last win dating back to Katrina and the Waves in 1997, it has led many to question whether the UK should continue to participate in the contest, but with the deep connections and being a beloved member of the Eurovision family, the annual competition is ingrained in British culture.
As the kick-off with the semi-finals is taking place on home pitch this year, the viewing numbers from British households will most likely be setting records and lead to the majority believing and hoping: It’s coming home!
A survey with 1000 participants conducted by Gala Bingo gives further reasons to believe the support will be enormous for Mae Muller:
Over 50% of the participants think Mae Muller will end up in a top 3 position:
First position: 10,50%, second position: 18,00%, third position: 21,80%.
78,1% will watch the Semi-finals and/or Grand Final on TV:
43,40% will be watching the Grand Final.
34,70% will be watching the Semi-finals and the Grand Final.
9,60% will attend a Semi-final and 4,20% the Grand Final in Liverpool.
The blog post does not just speculate on the outcome of this year’s competition but also covers an extensive questionnaire of the participant's favourite UK finalist from each decade, dating back to 1956.
The survey also includes an all-time face-off where Sam Ryder (15,50%) takes pole position before classic Bucks Fizz (7,50%), and Mae Muller (4,60%) snags a third position before legendary acts like Gina G, Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard.
With a top performance and scoring multiple ‘Douze points’, Mae Muller will mostly skyrocket ‘I Wrote a Song’ beyond ‘Space Man’ in popularity.
