Syn recommends starting the day off with a healthy breakfast, which studies also suggest helps a child's attention span and memory—essential for learning in school. A perfect way to kick off the day is with something fun and tasty like banana pancakes or mini-fruit kebobs. The kebobs are easy to make with pineapple, strawberries, grapes, and blueberries—just pair it with a flavored yogurt as dip. You can also try apple cinnamon oatmeal. Study Confirms FORME’s Approach To Fitness: A Deeper Look Into A Digital Fitness Company That Recently Reported Tripling Its Average Annualized Recurring Revenue Per Household

FORME

By David Willey, Benzinga The Washington Post has highlighted a recent Japanese study on the importance of a buddy for improving fitness results. This study seems to confirm the approach taken by digital fitness company Interactive Strength Inc. (NASDAQ: TRNR), doing business as FORME, which offers a roster of accessible and highly qualified personal trainers as a key component of its fitness solutions. The study found that those who exercised in groups at least twice a week were less at risk of cognitive impairment compared to those who exercised alone. Social exercisers reduced their risk of cognitive impairment by 34% when compared with those who didn’t exercise at all, while those who exercised alone only reduced their risk by 22%. The findings highlight the particular benefits that social exercise has for older adults, suggesting that regular social exercise can act as a preventive measure against cognitive decline. Inactivity is a risk factor for dementia, while regular exercise with socialization has demonstrated positive effects on cognitive function and in some cases can modify the structure of the brain. FORME’s 1:1 Virtual Fitness Training Service FORME built its fitness business model on the belief that 1:1 relationships are essential components of well-being and fitness. That is why it offers a premium digital fitness service that gives each of its members sessions with the best workout buddy of all – a certified personal trainer. FORME’s virtual fitness service is accessible through iOS and Android apps, as well as its smart gym mirrors. The service provides users with personalized fitness plans, progress tracking, and importantly, accountability through the provided training sessions with personal trainers. FORME’s platform connects users with highly qualified and certified trainers who specialize in various areas such as cardiovascular training, stress management, pre/postnatal training, nutrition coaching and injury prevention. Members get live 1:1 sessions with their trainers and get to build real relationships that provide them with the guidance and accountability necessary to see results. Additionally, FORME allows users to choose their trainer based on his or her coaching style. This guarantees a tailored experience that aligns with the member’s individual preferences. So whether a user prefers a technical and analytical approach, a laid-back style, or a fun atmosphere, FORME has a trainer to support them and help them meet their fitness goals. Following IPO, FORME’s Recurring Revenue Increases The company has recently released its financial report for Quarter 1, 2023. It had one-off expenses related to its initial public offering (IPO), resulting in a net loss of $16 million, or $2.09 per diluted share, for Q1, compared to a loss of $12.7 million, or $43.81 per diluted share, year-over-year (YoY). The company seems to have demonstrated control over its expenses by reducing non-Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) expenses by 62% YOY to $3.6 million, down from $9.4 million in Q1 2022. Its Adjusted Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA), also a non-GAAP measurement, was a loss of $4.4 million, a YoY improvement of $6.3 million. FORME reported more than tripling its average annualized recurring revenue per household, and it now generates an annual average of $1,650 per household. It is establishing itself in the luxury fitness market segment, which accounts for only 32% of the total memberships but for more than 70% of the revenue. According to Trent Ward, co-founder and CEO of FORME, the increase in recurring revenue reflects “the impact of our strategy to introduce higher revenue training services to our premium smart home gyms. We believe this focus on generating significantly higher recurring revenue per customer than our peers will be the biggest driver toward our future profitability.” The company also secured a senior loan in June for up to $15 million. “When combined with the proceeds from the IPO, we believe the proceeds from the senior loan we signed this week should fund the Company well into 2024 and are a testament to the exciting business we are building,” said Ward. Other companies involved in the digital health space include Lululemon Athletica Inc. (NASDAQ: LULU), Peloton Interactive Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON) and Xponential Fitness, Inc. (NASDAQ: XPOF). Back to School Tips for Healthy Eyes

YourUpdateTV

With the back-to-school season underway, it’s time to take an important look at your child’s eye health. Recently, the President of the American Optometric Association, Dr. Ronald L. Benner, participated in a nationwide satellite media tour to discuss back-to-school eye safety tips and the importance of having in-person, comprehensive eye exams with a doctor of optometry. A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/_wkZ4uuCvmg Since the pandemic, children have spent more hours using computers and digital devices for remote learning. This increase in screen time can be extremely taxing on the visual system and have long-term consequences for vision and learning. It also increases the likelihood of developing myopia (nearsightedness), eye coordination issues, eyestrain, dry eye, and exacerbated existing eye conditions. Eye and vision disorders can lead to problems in a child’s normal development, school performance, social interactions, engagement in athletics, and self-esteem. Vision disorders that occur in childhood may manifest as problems well into adulthood, affecting an individual’s level of education, employment opportunities, and social interactions. In addition, undiagnosed vision issues are sometimes misdiagnosed as learning disorders. Vision screenings, such as those performed in schools or pediatrician’s offices, are not a substitute for comprehensive eye exams performed by an optometrist. Annual in-person, comprehensive eye exams are one of the most important, preventative ways to preserve vision and overall health. Optometrists are America’s primary eye health care providers, and are on the frontline of eye and vision care. They examine, diagnose, treat and manage diseases and disorders of the eye. In addition to providing eye and vision care, they play a major role in an individual’s overall health and well-being by detecting systemic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. Eye exams safeguard overall health by enabling doctors to detect more than 270 serious health conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, autoimmune diseases and cancers. Eye Deserve More is a multi-faceted national campaign to take a stand that every American deserves in-person comprehensive care from an AOA doctor of optometry as part of their eye health and overall health and wellbeing. As part of the campaign, to further combat serious eye conditions, AOA developed Blink Land, a single-player mobile game that educates gamers through engaging mini-games and interesting trivia to empower them to focus on their eye health. Download Blink Land on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. For more information, visit aoa.org/eyedeservemore About Dr. Benner Ronald L. Benner, O.D., was elected to the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees at the 118th Annual AOA Congress & 45th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting® in June 2015 and elected to the office of President during the 126th Annual AOA Congress & 55th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting in June 2023. In addition to his duties as President, Dr. Benner serves as chair of the Executive Committee, Agenda Committee, and 401(k) Committee. Dr. Benner is also the liaison trustee to the American Academy of Optometry, the AOA Political Action Committee and the National Optometric Leadership Conference. His board assignments also include the Advocacy Committee, the Meetings & Member Experiences Committee, the Faculty & Student Membership Liaisons Committee, the Future Practice Education Task Force and the Advocacy Roundtable Committee. He also serves as a liaison to affiliate associations in Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin and is the trustee liaison to optometry schools including Chicago College of Optometry, Illinois College of Optometry, Indiana School of Optometry and Michigan College of Optometry—Ferris State University. Save the Redwoods League Secures an Opportunity to Protect 394-acre Redwood Forest in Sonoma, Including One of the County’s Tallest Trees

Save the Redwoods League

Save the Redwoods League today announced that it has secured an agreement with RMB Revocable Family Trust to acquire a 394-acre redwood forest in Sonoma County, named Russian River Redwoods. The deal will ensure long-term protection for the Clar Tree, one of the county’s oldest and tallest coast redwoods, and 1 mile of Russian River frontage near Guerneville. The League is seeking to raise $6.5 million for acquisition and project costs to purchase and temporarily hold the property by September 30, 2023. “This stretch of the Russian River is one of the most beloved scenic recreation areas in Northern California, and that’s due in large part to the redwoods that line its banks,” said Sam Hodder, president and CEO of Save the Redwoods League. “This opportunity to protect the Russian River Redwoods property is a rare chance to safeguard 1 mile of this scenic riverfront and put nearly 400 acres of redwood forest on a restoration trajectory.” Nearly all the old-growth redwood trees at Russian River Redwoods were cut down more than 100 years ago—all except the Clar Tree. This ancient giant is believed to be more than 2,000 years old. It is 16 feet in diameter and stands 278 feet tall today, after the intense winter storms of 2023 sheared roughly 30 feet off the top. The Clar Tree is surrounded by younger redwoods that are regrowing from the roots of the ancient giants. There are dozens of mature trees throughout the property, many a century old. “We are pleased that an agreement has been reached with Save the Redwoods League, and we will be offering the Clar Tree as a donation to the League to ensure its long-term protection,” said Roger Burch, trustee of the RMB Revocable Family Trust. This coast redwood and Douglas-fir forest is in the traditional lands and Southern Pomo territory of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. The Russian River is home to steelhead trout and coho and Chinook salmon. Russian River Redwoods includes a half-mile section of Mays Canyon Creek, a well-known stream for steelhead. The site also connects a contiguous habitat corridor of more than 4,000 acres of protected lands, home to northern spotted owls, bobcats, gray foxes and red tree voles. “Saving this forest and protecting the Clar Tree has been a dream of the local community for years,” said County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, Sonoma Board of Supervisors, District 5. “And now, thanks to Save the Redwoods League, this property will be protected forever. I’m so grateful that when we reached out to Save the Redwoods League, they stepped up in a critical moment. We look forward to contributing funding to support this project.” The League plans to transfer the land to Sonoma County within a year for long-term stewardship and restoration to improve wildfire resilience and advance the forest toward old-growth form and function. Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District will support and help fund the transfer, and it will receive a conservation easement and recreational covenant over the property to ensure long-term protection and to create an opportunity for future access. “The benefits of conserving the Russian River Redwoods property are vast,” said Misti Arias, general manager of Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. “This forest helps recharge our groundwater, sequesters carbon, provides habitat for plants and animals, and so much more. With this acquisition, we are helping to ensure the land is responsibly managed for both natural resources protection and for the health and resilience of our community.” * * * The public can contribute to this project on the Save the Redwoods League website. To access hi-res images and b-roll, visit the League’s online newsroom.
